When Big Sarge was asked how he got that nickname, his response was "In the early 2000’s, DJ Tommy Smith asked me to come up and talk about the Arkansas National Guard. When I opened the door, he said "Good Lord you are a big fellow, can I call you Big Sarge?" I said Tommy, you can call me anything you want on your show!"

In 2014, Big Sarge began the radio show called 'Fishing Arkansas' for 103.7 the Buzz. Currently, this radio show is live every Sunday morning, from 8:30 AM until 10:00 AM. In 2016, Big Sarge started the 'Fishing Report' with KARK channel 4.
